Welcome to The Square

St. James Community Square is a registered non-profit and charitable organization dedicated to providing affordable community space for educational, cultural, recreational and social activities in the heart of Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighborhood. We have about 5,500 people registered for, or participating in, programs at the site and our facility hosts about 500,000 user visits per year, including numerous special events. Facilities include Mel Lehan Hall, a variety of multi purpose rooms and some dedicated office space.

The Mel Lehan Hall building was purchased by the City of Vancouver early in 2016. Click our Notice Board link above to read about that exciting event.

St. James Community Square is an independent organization and does not receive subsidies for operational costs. Ongoing improvements, capital upgrades, and renovations are our financial responsibility, and are carried out with assistance from various sponsors and private donors. Support from community members is extremely important in the ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade the facilities. Your support can be shown by taking out an annual membership at a nominal cost of $5 or by making a tax deductible donation.

We invite you to join St. James and our tenants by participating in our 2018-2019 Fundraiser Campaign to make those renovations to our beautiful building that are the most urgent. We hope to secure enough funds to match monies committed to the Square through grant funding, to upgrade the historic Hall, upgrade washrooms, and bring our meeting rooms to a higher standard.

Donations of any size are appreciated. Please click the Chimp button to make your donation online and receive an immediate tax receipt via email from Chimp.

Our office can also process donations by credit card over the telephone, and we accept personal cheques or money orders by mail. Please visit our Contact Page for our contact information. Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $20 or more.

Visiting St. James: St. James Community Square is easily accessed by the Broadway bus system (one block south of Broadway.) As well, limited parking is available at the back of the building. We offer bike racks and and a wheel chair ramp accessed via Trutch St.
